Loss adjusting firm, Teceris, is to join the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) as part of an initiative to develop the use of conflict management and dispute resolution in the insurance market. Philip Heron, Teceris partner, commented: “Litigation is a costly and, in most cases, ineffective process and this has resulted in the development of various alternative means of dispute resolution. Mediation in particular is now seen as the dominant process in resolving disputes at lower cost and with greater levels of mutual satisfaction for the parties.
“With our multi-disciplinary expertise within Teceris we are deployed regularly by insurers and their advisers to provide expert support on cases being prepared for litigation. This has provided us with a broad and deep understanding of the specific role of the expert in these areas and an insight into the various forms of dispute resolution. Our dispute resolution expertise covers both property and liability claims disciplines including specialist surveyors, engineers and accountants. A number have also trained as mediators because we see this as an ideal medium for settlement of many of the more complex and contentious cases we have assigned to us.”
Karl Mackie, Chief Executive of CEDR said, “Teceris will now be able to consult and share best practice with senior CEDR Executives with experience of the markets in which they operate. CEDR will provide information and guidance in relation to mediation, arbitration and other dispute resolution mechanisms, and continue to identify neutrals with specific skills and experience meeting the needs of parties in dispute.”
